He stares at a crumpled photograph. Beside it, a half-empty glass of amber liquid catches the neon light from the street below.
ELIAS
(mutters)
Always the same damn pattern. Every single time.
The door handle rattles. Elias freezes. His hand moves instinctively toward the open drawer and finds the cold steel of his revolver.
VOICE (O.S.)
Are you going to open up, Elias? Or do I have to freeze to death out here?
ELIAS
Door's unlocked, Sarah. Always has been for you.
SARAH
You're living in a cliché, you know that, right? The rain, the booze, the brooding.
ELIAS
(smirks)
Saves time on exposition. What do you want, Sarah? It’s three in the morning.
SARAH
I want you to take the case. The one you swore you wouldn't touch.
Elias stares at the envelope. The music swells (JAZZ SAXOPHONE) as the camera slowly pushes in on the soaked manila folder.
